Innovation applied to recycling

Another clear example of Basq position towards the innovation applied to recycling and to circular economy is the commitment that we have had since the beginning to use recycled tyres for the soles of our shoes. By means of an innovative process of deconstruction of the tyre we separate the rolling band, where the most important technical properties are, and we use it as a base for the sole of our shoes giving them extreme grip and durability

The impact of tires on the planet.

Up to 30% of plastic waste that contaminates oceans every year comes from debris from tyres and textile products.

Tires are not biodegradable so they will never disappear unless they are recycled.

In Spain alone, around 300.000 tons of tires are used every year and only a small part is recycled. Almost half of that waste is not under any control and the other half ends up in dumps, rivers, the sea or natural areas.

Storing them is not a solution because their chemical breakdown causes pollution.

Burning them is often the option transferring the contamination to the atmosphere in the form of huge quantities of toxic substances. Tires release substances such as mercury, lead and carbon monoxide, all of which are linked to health issues directly.

Using tires to create artificial reefs at the bottom of the sea was a common practice during the last century. This has caused the destruction of huge areas of seafloor and the massive contamination of the oceans.
